‘This is the story of three Texas boys mindin’ their own bidnis when the Angel of the Lord appeared unto them saying:
„When the Winston Churchills start firing their Winston rifles into the sky from the Lone Star State, drinkin’ their Lone Star Beer and smokin’ their Winston cigarettes, know the time is drawin’ nigh when the Son shall be LIFTted on high’. We told ‘em that didn’t sound very Sunday-go-ta-meetin. ‘What do you expect when the Lord calls on the crippled, deaf and blind to lead the children of Israel into the Promised Land’. ‘Children of Israel?’, we asked. ‘Don’t you boys know nothin’? The USA is the center of Jer-USA-lem”’.
Die Texte Pearsons sind, sicherlich durch seine familiären Verhältnisse beeinflusst (sein Vater, Priester einer Pfingstkirche verlässt die Familie aufgrund seines religiösen Fanatismus), stark mit biblischen Bildern angereichert.
Aber auch der Einfluss von Songwritern wie Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen oder Nick Cave ist zu erkennen.
Eingespielt wurde das Album live im Studio. Die Musik fühlt sich zeitlos an, gleichzeitig ätherisch, hymnisch, roh, brachial und erdig.
Als Vorbilder erkennt man Bands wie z.B.: My Bloody Valentine, Spiritualized, The Gun Club, Dinosaur jr. oder The Who, und doch schaffen es Lift to Experience, trotz aller erkennbaren Einflüsse, ein vollständig eigenständiges Werk zu schaffen das an Intensität wohl kaum zu übertreffen ist.
Das Doppelalbum ist ein Songzyklus mit nahtlosen Übergängen bei dem selbst die Titelreihenfolge einen zusammenhängenden Sinn ergibt.

Ursprünglich wurde die LP 2001 auf dem britischen Label der ehemaligen Cocteau Twins Robin Guthrie and Simon Raymonde Bella Union veröffentlicht.
Die Wiederveröffentlichung mit neuem Mix, der etwas sauberer und dynamischer klingt (Josh T. Pearson: „We went back to the studio, neck deep in the heart of Texas, where Lift recorded The Texas-Jerusalem Crossroads – remixing the album the way it should have been mixed originally. It’s good to have our balls back after years spent being castrated.“) erscheint bei Mute als Doppel LP oder als Box-Set mit Demo EP von 1997 und den Peel Sessions vom 15.04.2001 und 12“ Booklet.
